Song without Words, opus 19

Song Without Words, opus 19 refers to the Mendelssohn piece Jim is polishing up in this painting. In his retirement, he's acquired a beautiful new piano, as this is now his only means of music making. Now there are many days that I'm painting at the easel, accompanied by his music making next door. I took a direct approach to painting this work in response to watching his hands move up and down the keyboard.
